Along with the rest of the world, the
NDE staff, Council and members are grieved and concerned
about the global disaster unfolding from the explosions
at Tepco's Fukushima nuclear reactors in Japan. Many of
are allies are equally concerned about the immediate aftermath
of these explosions (the radioactive poisoning of Japan
and the other populations on earth as the radioactive
fallout spreads towards California). And of course we
are also concerned about the potential dangers in the
Pacific Rim for repeated disasters. There are currently
23 General Electric Mark I reactors in the U.S.--the design
that exploded at Fukushima. Mother Earth can always shift
her tectonic plates in more dramatic ways, and California
(among dozens of other regions) hosts at least 3 coastal
nuclear power plants which could be similarly destroyed
by natural causes, contaminating more people along the
way.
The obvious intelligent choice for
Californians and the USA is for decomissioning all nuclear
power plants immediately and preparing for long-term SAFE
storage of the wastes.

for the best coverage.
