In March Fr. Louie journeyed to Iran
with a Fellowship of Reconciliation Citizen Peace delegation.

In January Kathy Kelly entered Gaza
during the final days of Israel's Operation Cast Lead assault.

Fr. Louie Vitale, OFM was a longtime Franciscan in Las Vegas. He helped found both sponsoring organizations, NDE to stop nuclear weapons testing and Pace e Bene to advocate nonviolent action and radical pacifism. Among his many convictions for his convictions are 6 months trying to shut down the School of Americas at Ft. Benning GA where counter-insurgency is taught to Latin American military officers and 5 months for trying to deliver a letter to the base commander at Ft. Huachuca AZ where the US Army interrogation manuals are written.

Kathy Kelly co-coordinates Voices for Creative Nonviolence, a campaign to end military and economic warfare against Iraq. As a co-founder of Voices in the Wilderness, she helped form 70 delegations, from 1996 - 2003, that openly defied economic sanctions by bringing medicines to children and families in Iraq. Kathy and her companions lived in Baghdad throughout the 2003 "Shock and Awe" bombing. During five months of the past year, in Amman, Jordan, Kathy lived amongst Iraqis who fled violence in their country.

We will also remember Martin Luther King, Jr. who was assassinated on April 4, 1968, and who remains a prophetic inspiration to both the speakers and the sponsoring organizations.
