PRAYING FOR THE DEAD AND
RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR OF PEACE
Three Las Vegans went out to a conduct a sunrise ceremony
@ the Mercury exit of US 95 this morning to pray for a
new year of PEACE and nuclear abolition. In the fire circle,
they remembered Corbin Harney
(R.I.P.) who would have been there in body today conducting
a New Year's Day Sunrise Ceremony as usual. The group
also commemorated Roger
Ray, a former
military man who spent much of his life helping the
nuclear establishment. Corbin crossed
over to the spirit world 6 months ago and Roger also
passed on 11 months ago. In the mix this morning was a
Nye County Sheriff who approached to take pictures and
who entered the dialog with the three prayer-warriors.
Eight years ago today, NDE started hosting New Year's
events at this site, (Millenium
2000) including the rituals of civil resistance and
risk of arrest (a,k,a, "temporary kidnapping")
under the force of Nye County officers and Wackenhut Security.
That was the largest ever nuclear abolitionist event on
a New Year's Day, yet groups sometimes continue to gather
and witness for peace here irregularly each January 1st.
